The Port of San Juanis a beautiful port located in the heart of Puerto Rico. As a US territory, you do not need a passsport to travel from the US to Puerto Rico. However, if you are cruising to any other ports of call you will need to have your passport.
Millions of cruise passengers visit the Port of San Juan every year and it is Caribbean’s hub for cruise ships. Every day there are about five to six ships that line the Port of San Juan. Cruises depart from San Juan on a regular basis and passengers often fly into San Juan and take a taxi over to the cruise port. There is no parking available so a taxi or other transportation is required.

The Port of San Juan cruise terminal is located in one of the Caribbean’s busiest cities. In 2012, there were seven cruise lines making more than 175 sailings into the San Juan cruise terminal. Cruise lines such as the Princess Cruise Lines, Carnival Cruise Lines, Celebrity Cruise Lines, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines sail to and from the San Juan cruise port. The San Juan cruise port offers no parking facilities. However, there are the public ones in the area that surround the Port of San Juan. Taxi service is available at the airport of San Juan for $19 as a one-way fare. Car rentals are also available at the airport but not recommended for cruise passengers because there is no cruise parking available at the port. Cruise lines can arrange buses for a lower fare if you ask them ahead of time. Upon entering San Juan passengers of a Caribbean cruise may be taken to the San Juan cruise terminal from the airport. When they arrive at the airport, they can proceed to the gates that serve the intercontinental jets and then go to the Airport Ground Transport. From here, they can be transported to the San Juan cruise port.
A number of restaurants are available in San Juan. Aquaviva, Tandra, Caficultura, Parrot Club, Dragonfly, Nuyorican Café, El Patio de Sam, Marmalade, El Picoteo, La Fonda del Jibarito, and La Bombonera are fine dining places that offer great local and classic foods. Old San Juan offers a wide range of accommodations at reasonable prices. Hotels that cruisers or visitors may avail from are Hotel Milano, Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel, Hotel El Convento, and Cervantes Hotel. From the Port of San Juan, one can easily find souvenir shops, and art galleries (Galeria Sanchez). Crafts (Puerta Rican Arts and Crafts), and several jewelers are also located in the area. A shopper’s paradise known as Cristo is also found nearby the Port of San Juan. A free trolley is available to the cruisers’ delight as a great means for a bit of sightseeing. For those who enjoy nightlife, El Batey’s is one that offers a unique experience. Those looking to enjoy live dancing and music, Rumba are the perfect place to dance the night away.
